My Ex Chose His New Family Over Our Daughter — I Made Him Face a Consequence He Didn’t See Coming

Posted on December 6, 2025 by Aleena Irshad

Life often places us in challenging situations that test our patience, resilience, and sense of justice. Co-parenting, in particular, requires a careful balance, with both parents equally sharing responsibilities to ensure their child’s well-being. But what happens when one parent prioritizes their own needs, leaving the other to shoulder the entire burden? This is a common struggle for many single parents. Recently, a reader shared her experience, revealing how she handled an unexpected and audacious request from her ex-husband.

Here is letter:

Ex-husband casually asked to skip 3 months of child support-he needed to “save for a summer trip” with his wife and their 2 kids. I didn’t argue…

When the next visitation day came, I didn’t drop off our daughter. Instead, I left a luggage at his door. As he excitedly unzipped it, his face turned white as he saw a pile of clothes and school supplies. He blinked and asked, ‘What’s this?’ I smiled. ‘Oh, since you want a break from supporting our child financially, I figured I’d help. So, for the next 16 weeks, he’ll be living with you.’

His wife appeared in the doorway, frowning. “What?” I explained, “It’s simple. Since you’re taking a break from financially supporting our child, I thought it’d be fair if I took a break too. You’ll be handling full-time parenting for the next 16 weeks. You know-so I can focus on my own savings. Oh, and don’t worry, I packed enough clothes and school supplies for the first two weeks. After that, I’m sure you can work something out.”

He looked absolutely terrified and blurted out, “Wait, hold on! We never agreed to this!” I tilted my head, feigning innocence. “Oh? I assumed you’d be fine with it. I mean, it’s just 3 months.

What’s the big deal?” I let my words sink in for a moment before delivering the final blow. “Oh, and one more thing-

our daughter didn’t feel like visiting Daddy today. She said she’d rather stay with me this weekend. So, I’ll drop her off Monday morning, and then you’ll have her for the full 12 weeks. Enjoy!”

Now, my ex and his wife can’t stop calling and texting me, but I’m not picking up. I’m standing my ground. If he chose to prioritize his new family over our daughter, then he should face the consequences. I didn’t make

this decision alone-he did, the moment he asked to opt out of his responsibilities. Am I wrong for this?
Sincerely, Rose
