A woman returns home to find her belongings packed in trash bags outside her apartment. When she tries to enter, her key doesn’t work, and her mother-in-law, Miranda, tells her she no longer lives there. Inside, her husband Alan is with another woman, Lesley, who had been introduced as Alan’s childhood friend but was actually his lover all along. Miranda reveals they’ve been planning this for over a year, and Alan had even convinced her to quit her job.
Alan tells her that she’ll lose in court since she added him to the apartment deed for tax reasons. Feeling betrayed, the woman stays with a friend and seeks help from a lawyer.
