Carol had been married to Tommy for six years, blending into the lives of his 16-year-old twins, Jack and Lily, whose mother had been absent since they were eight. From the start, Carol had made it clear she wasn’t there to replace their mom, and with therapy and patience, they began calling her “Mom” by age 13.
