Six weeks before our daughter Chloe was born, Eric emptied our savings and left me for another woman. Soon after, Chloe arrived prematurely and needed expensive breathing treatments.
Desperate, I called Eric for help.
“You chose to keep her,” he said. “She’s your responsibility and your problem.”
When I went to his house, his girlfriend mocked me while Eric called Chloe a “little brat” and slammed the door.
That night, I told his mother, Barbara, everything. Eric had lied, claiming I left him and refused to let her see the baby.
Barbara paid for Chloe’s medicine and created a plan. The next morning, we placed Eric’s belongings on his porch with a note: “You wanted your own life. Here it is.”
Then Barbara revealed that she owned the house Eric claimed was his. She ended his discounted rent and helped me contact a lawyer to recover our savings and secure child support.
Tessa eventually left after discovering Eric’s lies, and he moved into a smaller apartment. He didn’t change overnight, but he began paying support and visiting Chloe regularly.
I stopped begging him to care, while Barbara finally stopped protecting him from the consequences of his actions.
