While babysitting my nephew at 3 a.m., I heard a voice whisper through the baby monitor: “He’s not okay.” He was sound asleep.
I called my sister, who shouted, “Grab him, lock yourselves in the car, and call 911!”
Then a man’s shadow passed outside his window—and I noticed it was open. We always kept it shut.
I grabbed my nephew and ran. Police found nothing and blamed the sounds on a faulty monitor. Replacing it stopped the whispers.
But it never explained the shadow—or the open window.
