The female teacher folded her arms and stared at the late 15-year-old standing at the classroom door.
“Why are you late again?” she asked.
The boy adjusted his backpack and grinned.
“Ma’am, I dreamed I was playing football and scored the winning goal!”
The classroom burst into laughter.
The teacher sighed.
“That’s not an excuse for being late.”
But the boy’s smile widened.
“Well, Ma’am,” he said confidently, “the match went into extra time.”
More laughter spread through the room.
The teacher shook her head.
“Oh really?”
“Yes!”
She pointed toward his desk.
“Sit down before I send you to the principal.”
The boy started walking toward his seat.
But halfway there, he turned back and added:
“And honestly, Ma’am… if our goalkeeper hadn’t been so terrible, I would’ve been here earlier.”
The class erupted.
Even the teacher fought back a smile.
Still—
she refused to surrender.
“Very funny,” she said. “But dreams don’t excuse tardiness.”
The boy shrugged dramatically.
“Then I guess I should stop sleeping altogether.”
More giggles.
The teacher picked up her attendance book.
“You seem full of energy for someone who just finished an imaginary football final.”
He sat down proudly.
“That’s because we won.”
The students laughed again.
Trying to regain control, the teacher decided to challenge him.
“Alright,” she said. “Since your dream was so important, tell us… who were you playing against?”
The boy answered immediately.
“The teachers.”
The room exploded.
The teacher raised an eyebrow.
“And who won?”
He looked surprised.
“Us, obviously.”
She crossed her arms.
“Oh really? By how much?”
He grinned.
“Three–nil.”
The class roared.
Now even the teacher was struggling.
“And who scored?”
The boy pointed proudly at himself.
“I scored the winning goal.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“The winning goal… in a 3–0 match?”
The room went silent.
The boy froze.
Then quickly replied:
“Well… I like to stay humble.”
The students nearly fell out of their chairs laughing.
The teacher rubbed her forehead.
“You always have an answer, don’t you?”
He smiled.
“Only during school hours.”
That earned another wave of laughter.
But the teacher had one final idea.
She closed the attendance book and said:
“Alright then, football star.”
The class quieted.
“If your dream was so real, what minute did you score this ‘winning goal’?”
The boy looked thoughtful.
Everyone waited.
Then—
he grinned.
“Exactly 7:45, Ma’am.”
She frowned.
“And?”
He pointed dramatically toward the classroom clock.
“That’s why I’m late.”
The teacher blinked.
“What?”
He leaned back proudly.
“After scoring, the fans carried me around the stadium.”
The class exploded louder than ever.
The teacher laughed despite herself.
“You expect me to believe that?”
The boy nodded seriously.
“No, Ma’am.”
Silence.
Then he added:
“But I hoped the crowd noise would distract you.”
Even she laughed this time.
Shaking her head, she said:
“You know what? One day that mouth of yours is going to get you into trouble.”
The boy smiled and replied:
“Maybe, Ma’am…”
Then he glanced around the classroom and delivered the final line:
“But today it got me five extra minutes of sleep.”
The room burst into uncontrollable laughter—
including the teacher herself.
