Growing up, I always felt invisible. My dad treated my sister like a princess while I was the afterthought. She got the best clothes, the nicest gifts, and endless praise. I got lectures about being “independent” and “not needing help.”
When I turned 18, I moved out determined to build my own life. It wasn’t easy, but at least I no longer had to watch the favoritism every day.
Years passed with little contact. Then recently, my dad called me in a panic.
“We need $4,000 or we’ll lose the house!” he said.
I actually laughed. After everything, he was asking me for help?
“Ask your princess,” I replied, and hung up.
A few days later, curiosity got the best of me. I called my aunt to see what was going on. That’s when she dropped a bombshell.
Apparently, my sister had secretly taken out loans in my dad’s name years ago. Credit cards, personal loans—thousands of dollars. My dad had spent years covering for her, paying things off quietly because he didn’t want anyone to know.
Now the debt had finally caught up with him.
