Former President George W. Bush was unexpectedly named the WNBA’s first Honorary Commissioner during the Dallas Wings’ home opener. Wearing a “Dubya for Three” jersey, Bush joked that he had finally found a job where the plays were bipartisan.
The league credited his support for women’s sports and memorable appearance at a 2023 Wings game. His duties will include ceremonial tip-offs, promoting media coverage, and designing a special basketball inspired by his painting hobby.
Bush later joined players in a three-point contest, making one of ten attempts. The WNBA hopes his appointment will attract attention and strengthen its campaign for gender equality in sports.
